The site selected for the new maintenance building in this busy green space included poorly drained soils and dumped debris, which led the Engineer of Record to specify Cantsink’s helical piers for support. The piers are guaranteed to provide stability for the building’s ongoing use, helping the City of Greensboro maintain its premier park facility.
Sprayground
Greensboro’s parks offer a variety of aquatic activities. In addition to the park’s swimming pool, it has a sprayground, a playground, and a pond. The city’s parks and recreation department is seeking feedback on the draft Aquatics Facilities Master Plan.
Greensboro is home to several paved walking trails, including the 1.5-mile paved loop around Lake Brandt. You can also walk along the peaceful Veteran’s Trail of Peace.

The City of Greensboro needed a new maintenance building at its premier park facility in the heart of downtown. The site selected for the new structure contained poor soils and dumped debris, which prompted the engineer to specify helical pier support. The park has a top-of-the-line water park with 117,000 gallons of fun. It features Thunder Bay, a giant wave pool that makes perfect waves. It also has enclosed slides, tube rides, and a drifting Lazee River. Other attractions include Gateway Gardens, where larger-than-life sculptures of apples beckon kids to play inside, and the paved path that winds around the garden is lined with insect mosaics.
Outdoor Amphitheater
A regional park, this impressive facility offers six picnic shelters and playgrounds along with a one-mile walking trail. It also houses an outdoor amphitheater for concerts, a 18-hole disc golf course, Penn Wright Baseball Stadium, and the Simkins Indoor Sports Pavilion.
The Ruth Wicker Tribute to Women exhibit celebrates the legacy of the late Greensboro volunteer and philanthropist. In addition to a collection of artifacts, the exhibition explores how people serve others. The museum features a multi-touch table interactive to help visitors understand the significance of service and its impact.
Baseball Stadium
The baseball stadium at Barber Park is a great place for kids and adults to enjoy sports. The area also has a disc golf course, an indoor sports pavilion, and a walking trail. The Greensboro Challenger League has a baseball field where young athletes with disabilities can learn to play the game.
